If you’re reading this, I already know that you’re interested in improving your life and making healthier choices along the way. And the good news is that living a healthier, holistic life is well within your reach. All you have to do is improve the choices you make.
The one thing that is unique to holistic living is that it requires you to look at everything in your life as a whole, rather than separating everything by your own personal boundaries. For example, when it comes to an illness, you would no longer look at it and see it as something purely physical, you look at the bigger picture instead. The fact is, your sickness can be caused by the physical, emotional, psychological, or some combination of all three.
That’s why holistic living helps you prepare your mind, body and soul for all of the challenges that you’ll face through life.
Holistic Lifestyle Tips
In the following article, we’re going to go over nine tips on living a more natural, holistic lifestyle:
● Recognizing the powers of the body
● Practicing mindfulness
● Eating clean
● Focusing on positive relationships
● Learning to grow
● Loving your life
● Being respectful to others
● Staying active
● Detoxing your lifestyle
#1 – Recognize The Powers Of The Body
The truth is that the human body is a powerful molecular machine, which rarely gets used to its full potential. Our bodies are capable of so many amazing things. Even the small things our bodies do, like breathing or pumping blood are miracles in themselves. That’s why my first tip is to recognize how powerful your body truly is.
Meditation can be an extremely powerful practice that can help you feel more relaxed and help you learn how to connect with the inner powers of your body.
#2 – Start Practicing Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of learning to live in the moment and is an extremely important aspect of living a holistic lifestyle. It helps you let go of worrying about the past and/or the future and teaches you to make the most out of your current situation.
In order to practice mindfulness, you’ll need to work towards looking at the things in your life more objectively, from an unbiased perspective. Learn to not place labels on the events or the things in your life. Quit thinking about everything as being good or bad. Instead, practice thinking that all things are equal and that everything that happens is only a small part of a bigger picture. Learn to be in the moment.
#3 – Start Eating Clean
It can be too easy to fall into the trap of eating fast food or processed foods just because of the convenience. But eating healthy allows you to keep your body well-nourished and properly fueled and is a crucial aspect of living a holistic life.
So instead of grabbing that juicy burger on your way home from work, make sure you plan ahead by doing meal prep once or twice per week. That way, you’ll have most of your meals pre-cooked and waiting for you when you get home.
Next time you’re at the grocery store, make sure to buy an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, both of which are excellent for your whole-body health and perfect to add to your new holistic diet. Shop within the parameters of the store – that’s where you’ll find the healthier food choices. Store your produce where you can easily see it – this helps to make better snack choices.
Making your own food at home is sure to leave you feeling like you’ve accomplished something. Plus, since you’re making your food yourself, you’ll know exactly what ingredients are going into the things you eat. Which is an excellent way to take a more holistic approach to what goes into your body.
#4 – Focus On Positive People
It’s not uncommon to get into arguments or disagreements with the ones we love. Whether it’s a friend, a family member, or a partner, those disagreements can often leave us feeling like we’re trapped. Especially when neither side believes that they were at fault.
But if you’re looking to live a holistic life, you’re going to need to start taking a different approach to your relationships; one where you learn to let go of things. Forgive and forget.
When we talk about holistic health, it’s important to understand that a big part of our physical and mental health is directly affected by the people that we keep in our lives. If you want to live a holistic life, you’ll need to learn to recognize how the people in your life are affecting you, positively or negatively.
Even if these are the people that you love, if they’re constantly arguing with you, making you mad and otherwise bringing negative energy into your life, you need to learn to avoid these people and focus on building relationships with people who bring positive energy into your life; people who love and support you, no matter what.
Of course, that doesn’t mean you should jump the gun and start cutting people out of your life just because you’ve had a disagreement. In fact, in order to live a more holistic life, it’s vital that you learn to try and work through challenges before giving up completely. This often means asserting ourselves to the people who make us mad or get on our nerves. But sometimes, speaking up can be enough to ensure that the other person knows how we feel, and in some cases, this can be enough to help both people work through the issue at hand.
#5 – Learn To Grow
Much too often, we get stressed out about things in our lives that it becomes impossible for our minds to focus on a single subject. But if you want to live a holistic life, it’s vital that you go through periods of change over the course of your journey.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that you need to change every aspect of your life overnight. Instead, the key is to modify your life in small ways, and to change your habits slowly, one step at a time.
Learning to live a holistic life takes some time. But by being mindful, you’ll have front row seats to your own personal growth and self-improvement. Learn to appreciate any growth that you can recognize within yourself, no matter how small of a change it is.
That’s why it’s also important to keep an open mind while you’re learning to grow. Not all of the opportunities and obstacles in life are created equal, but by keeping an open mind and looking to look at things from a different perspective, you’ll be able to learn how to make the most out of every situation.
#6 – Learn To Love Your Life
It doesn’t matter who you are, your life is going to have all sorts of ups and downs, highs and lows. Sometimes, we get dealt a bad hand. Other times, we win the lottery. This is a natural fact of life.
That’s why it’s so important to learn to love your life, no matter what you’re going through. The highs and the lows are all part of your journey.
To live holistically, it’s important to try to look for the silver lining in everything, even in the darker times of your life. Be sure to try and not repeat the mistakes of the past when you’ve come across other hard times.
There is almost always a lesson we need to learn during difficult times. Therefore, by focusing on discovering what that lesson is, and learning from it, we can learn to ease our stresses and enjoy life a little more.
#7 – Always Be Respectful
And that goes for every single person you encounter in your life. You never really know who someone is at first, or how they might help you in some way. And at the same time, maybe they’re the one in need of help, and sharing a few kind words with them might be just what they needed to hear to get through the day.
The lesson here is that you never really know what type of battle another person is going through. That’s why it’s important to always be respectful, no matter what. Remember that while respect may be earned, being respectful is about learning to be compassionate for the people in our lives.
#8 – Stay Active
There’s no quicker way to put a damper on your holistic lifestyle than by sitting on your butt all day long. Even if your job requires you to sit at a desk all the time, it’s crucial that you find the time to incorporate some form of physical activity into your daily life.
If you’re the type who has more energy in the mornings, why not take a brisk walk around the block to kick start the day? Or if you’re more energetic after work, maybe try hitting the gym or meeting with a friend for an evening jog. It doesn’t matter what you do, the important thing is to get your heart rate up for at least 10 to 30 minutes per day. However, this can vary significantly depending on your age, health, and level of physical fitness.
Staying active will help you improve your overall stamina and energy levels, not to mention getting all the fresh air. Either way, you’ll feel much better physically, mentally, and holistically.
#9 – Ditch The Chemicals
The fact is that today’s consumer lifestyle is chock full of chemicals. Be it in the foods that we eat, the clothes that we wear, or the products that we put on our skin. That’s why it’s important to focus on removing any products that contain harsh or harmful chemicals from your life.
Instead, try looking for more natural products that contain ethically sourced ingredients, which are more conducive to holistic living than the heavily processed products you’ll typically find in stores today. Take an inventory of the products that you use in your daily life and see if you can find healthier, more natural alternatives.
Building Your Holistic Life
It’s important to realize that change takes time. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. With that being said, one of the best pieces of advice is to not expect to change your entire life overnight. Instead, begin by identifying how each and every component of your life is affecting you, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Then, set goals and start making small changes, one at a time. Always remember, every step in the right direction is an improvement.
In the end, holistic living is about your life as a whole, not just the individual puzzle pieces that make it up. And by following the steps outlined in this post, you’ll be well on your way to living a healthy, holistic life.
