Do Canadians Prefer Classic Christmas Movies?
We see new Christmas releases every year, but it seems like none match up to the magic and wonder of the ‘classics’ – which Canadians seem to agree with!
No films that appeared in the top 10 were released in the last decade – with the most recent in the top half of the ranking being 2009’s animated ‘A Christmas Carol’ that had a 210% search increase.
The most recent film on the list was 2018’s The Grinch – the animated film has only had a 61% increase in searches, compared to its older live action counterpart, which has already had a 193% increase.
Canadians are also opting for family-friendly Christmas films. Whilst there are some films on the list more tailored to an older audience; A Bad Moms Christmas (14A) and Bad Santa (18A) ranked quite low.
Methodology
Seedlist was compiled from Boxofficemojo, with the top 20 films pulled based on lifetime gross.

The original Grinch will always be my favourite Christmas movie of all time, and it isn’t even a movie! 😉
